That is an interesting question and I don't know the answer. When you use the iPad as the hotspot, other devices can connect, but I don't know if the iPad can connect to its own hotspot. I am taking a guess and I would guess no it will not work. I have been wrong before and I know that I will surely be wrong again. 
You can try, but I have my doubts.
